The Ladder
Supporting Students Towards Successful, Confident Futures
Published by Crown House in February 2021, The Ladder is Bernie's first commissioned book, a distillation of 15 years of working with young people on skills, self-awareness and future thinking. Written for teachers, heads of year and school leaders, it draws on Dr Tony Wagner's Seven Key Skills research (adopted by the World Economic Forum) and includes dozens of practical resources.
Build Your Ladder is a workshop based on the book which supports young people to put themselves in the right place to succeed in a busy and ever-changing job market. This can also be delivered to staff as part of a CPD / INSET day.

The Back Row Boys
Fiction for PSHE and RSE
Written during the 2020 lockdown under the pen name Jamie Stone, The Back Row Boys is a collection of four short stories for teenagers, based on real episodes from Bernie's own life. The themes mirror what he covers in his school sessions: fitting in, identity, anger, relationships and health. No swearing, no explicit content, but nothing flinched from either.
The four stories are: Criminal Fashion, Where Are You Really From?, Battle Lines, and Curve Ball.
The paperback includes PSHE and RSE discussion questions for each story, designed for pastoral sessions with reluctant readers.
Masculinity, Relationships & Respect in Education
Forthcoming from Routledge
Bernie's second commissioned book, due from Routledge, is a call to action for educators on challenging misogyny, supporting male allies and creating safer environments for women and girls in schools and workplaces. It draws directly on his 20 years delivering sessions with students, teachers and parents on masculinity, coercive control and domestic abuse.
